Example 1. Are the following statements true or false? Give reasons for your answers.
(a) Every whole number is a natural number.
(b) Every integer is a rational number.
(c) Every rational number is an integer.

Sol. (a) False, because zero is a whole number, but it is not a natural number.
(b) True, because every integer can be expressed in the form of $$\frac{p}{q}$$, so it is a rational number.
(c) False, because $$\frac{2}{7}$$ is a rational number but it is not an integer.
